Commander4j

Open the latest Commander4j release on GitHub. Scroll down to the heading Assets and click the file that matches your computer. The version number in the file name changes with each release; everything else stays the same.

Your computer File to click Size
Windows 10 or 11 (nearly everyone) Commander4j_version_windows-x64_with_jre.exe about 200 MB
Windows on ARM (Snapdragon laptops) Commander4j_version_windows-arm64_with_jre.exe about 160 MB
Mac with an Apple chip (M1, M2, M3, M4) Commander4j_version_apple_silicon_with_jre.dmg about 140 MB
Mac with an Intel processor Commander4j_version_apple_intel_with_jre.dmg about 140 MB
Linux Commander4j_version_linux.sh (the Java 25 JDK must already be installed) about 100 MB

The files are large because each one includes its own copy of Java. You do not need to install Java separately on Windows or macOS.

Not sure which Mac you have? Click the Apple menu, then About This Mac. If it says Chip: Apple M… choose Apple silicon. If it says Processor: Intel… choose Intel.

Ignore the two other files in the list unless you are setting up a server: c4j_commander4j_web.war is the scanner web application, deployed on an Apache Tomcat 11 server with a Java 25 JDK (see Installation), and updates.xml is used by the built-in update check.

The website has the same choices as buttons that always point at the newest release: commander4j.com/download.html.

Companion applications

Only needed when you connect Commander4j to an ERP or drive automatic labellers. They normally live on a server. Each release page lists the same five file types as above.
